Whatever other charges against Trump the DOJ brings we must remember two things: The FBI is no friend of progressive people and the sooner it is abolished the better. The FBI, along with the CIA, while not exactly the Gestapo, is a species of the same genus (out of control Secret Police) and is a major tool of the capitalist state in oppressing the rights of oppressed minorities (Native Americans and Black people especially), and the Communist and Socialist movements. The second thing to remember is all progressives and communist and socialist people condemn the Espionage Act as a tool of the most reactionary elements in the capitalist government to use against the peoples' struggles to end oppression and imperialism.
Some of the victims of this Act are Eugene V. Debs, the Rosenbergs, Daniel Ellsberg, Chelsea Manning, Julian Assange, Edward Snowden among others.
Trump and the incipient fascist movement he leads along with the Republican Party must be defeated by the mass fightback of the American people defending the democratic gains won by the workers movement and progressives since the end of the Civil War. The FBI and the Espionage act are of no use to us for this end and the fightback the FBI is currently experiencing is a good opportunity for the Left to explain to the misguided Right the true nature of the FBI and the Espionage Act and why Trump should be subject to investigation not under the Espionage Act but on the other two charges, removal and destruction of records and obstruction of justice. Due to the FBI's past history of falsifying evidence a neutral citizens watchdog group is merited as the Right will never accept the word of the FBI and DOJ on their own.
