Why The War Started

‘’Merkel knew that inviting Ukraine into NATO would trigger a Russian military response. Rather than reject this possibility altogether, Merkel instead pursued a policy designed to make Ukraine capable of withstanding such an attack. War, it seems, was the only option Russia’s opponents had ever considered."

This article shows that the US and NATO were well aware that NATO membership for Ukraine would result in a Russian military intervention. Especially since from 2014 (the date of the coup and the attack on the Donbas resistance) Russia was under notice that Ukraine was going to become part of the anti-Russian NATO military alliance.
For 8 yers the West then built up the Ukrainian military to withstand an invasion while telling the Russians we supported the Minsk agreements for a peaceful resolution. Biden was able to "predict" a Russian invasion because the US knew when Ukraine finally junked the Minsk agreements the Russians would realize they had been duped and a military response would follow.
This is indeed a proxy war solicited by US imperialism -- it is a rehearsal to test out the abilities not only of the Russians but of their allies to support them -- just as Hiroshima was actually a message for Stalin, this US war in Ukraine is a message to Xi -- Taiwan is de facto a US ally. It's not only that, its other goal is to solidify current Western world dominance which the Russians were threatening by working with China and others to create a multipolar world system to replace the unipower US dominance.
We don't know how this war will turn out but we do know which side represents the most vicious, brutal and war mongering international ruling class since the fall of the Axis powers in WWII. We need a peace movement that will demand the US back off and bring this war to an end and and realize that peace is impossible without recognizing the legitimate demands and rights of Russia in this dispute.
We, as Americans, must never forget what US foreign policy represents in the world-- Martin Luther King told us, and was killed for it, it was that "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today" is the US government-- this has not changed since the days of Vietnam-- all the wars and violent overhrows since those days, including Ukraine today, can be traced back to the plans and policies of the US government. We may have defeated Trump for the nonce, but Biden is just as great a threat in the long run both to our working class and to the peace of the world.
