An interesting account, most likely fabricated, by the NYT. Two, out of many, quotes incline me to this belief: "It is maddeningly difficult to say with any certainty what effect Russian influence operations have had on the United States, because when they took hold they piggybacked on real social divisions. Once pumped into American discourse, the Russian trace vanishes, like water that has been added to a swimming pool." And a lot of the info is based on a [US State Department summary] of a "US intelligence report." In other words the info comes from sources all progressives know distribute the very same sort of disinformation that they accuse others of doing and the article admits it can't say anything about what the Russians are supposed to have done "with any certainty." Nevertheless, the whole tenor of the article is contrived to leave a lasting impression in the reader's mind of evil Russians. It may all be true, but there is no reason to believe that it is based on this article.
