Which Side Are You On

This is an English version of a Spanish article from El Manifesto. Marxists should be clear what this war is about. It is a rehearsal by the US and the international monopoly capitalist class that rules the West and most of what Biden and the US imperialists call the "free world"-- the part of the globe under the control of the imperialists, for the real war that the dynamics of the capitalist system must wage against China. It is analogous to the Spanish civil war of the 1930s as a rehearsal for WW II.

The Russian capitalists have been excluded from the Western club because they demanded an equal partnership with the US and NATO. This would have made NATO irrelevant and destroyed the ideological justification for the US military budget and the billions in profits it extracts from the world. Russia has been forced into a de facto alliance with China and other powers hostile to the present US imperialist world domination. Some of these powers are unsavory from a Marxist perspective with respect to their internal regimes, yet they objectively play a positive role in the struggle against the number one enemy of peace and the number one exploiter of the world's working people-- US imperialism. As far as the international situation is concerned it doesn't matter which group of fascists control the US military (the soft ones represented by the Democratic leadership, or the hard ones run by the GOP leadership). Domestically the illusions of bourgeois democracy are allowed to play by the soft fascists but they will be stripped way when necessary.
This article presents a realistic analysis of the military and political situation between Russia and Ukraine. One side represents a better future for humanity, the other. a worse one. Marxists have to be clear about which is which and which side they are on.
