On The Conflict in Ukraine

This was supposed to be a limited action to keep NATO out of Ukraine, defend the rights of the working class and Russian speakers in the Donbas, and remove the neo-Nazi's from their positions in the government and military. Biden has turned it into a proxy war between the US and Russia. Ukraine now has an unlimited supply of advanced weapons at its disposal flowing in from NATO and the US directly. It is doubtful the Russian military is capable of completely defeating the Ukrainians. Russia can take over the Donbas and dig in --the Ukrainians won't be able to drive them out if they are determined to stay. We will have a stalemate. A rational negotiated peace could be worked out acceptable to both sides but US imperialism will try to prolong the conflict as long as possible and will do all it can to prevent such an outcome. All this anti-Putin propaganda (he is no worse than US presidents in misusing his military) is part of the US game plan and an attempt to cover up the imperialist provocations that led the Russian ruling class to attempt this ill advised military assault on Ukraine. Unless Biden can be stopped this war will be intensified and the only winner will be US Imperialism and the two political parties that are its supporters. We need to build a broad popular front based on the working class and including the vast majority of the American people directed against both major capitalist parties and their imperialist policies -- this is the only way to really fight the ongoing drift towards fascism and war in this country.

China: Socialist vs Capitalist Market

It is not the job of the Communist Party to direct the economy in the interests of stock speculators, entrepreneurs, and big capitalist corporations. The CPC has always maintained that the socialist market was not a "free" capitalist market but a "socialist market" which was using capitalist measures to develop the economy for the purpose of an eventual transition to full socialism. The Party serves the interests of the vast majority of working people and peasants not the capitalist oriented business community that has developed as a result of the economic reforms. In China their interests are promoted by the state under regulations that benefit the goals set by the Communist Party in the interests of the entire population as a whole. In the West the state serves the interests of a small capitalist class at the expense of the vast majority of the people as a whole. It is only natural that the NYT and other MSM find fault with how China plans its economic growth as this socialist model is a real threat to Western capitalist economic domination of the world. Peaceful competition is only acceptable to the West if it guarantees maintenance of Western domination, specifically US imperialist domination. The Biden regime is even now ramping up its imperialist military and propaganda threatening armed conflicts with China and even other capitalist countries (Russia in particular) which refuse to kowtow to American interests. This has been the case with every president since WWII and will remain the case until the capitalist ruling class is overthrown one way or another.

History Gets a Rewrite?

Why does this "rewrite" seem so familiar to those Marxists familiar with the writings of Lewis Henry Morgan (Ancient Society, The League of the Iroquois) Frederick Engels (The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State) and Vere Gordon Childe (Man Makes Himself, What Happened in History) and many other historians, archaeologists and anthropologists in the Marxist tradition. I haven't read the book under discussion but there is nothing in this review that will not sound old hat to those educated in the tradition of Marxist historiography and dialectical and historical materialism. If you have had a throughly conventional bourgeois education, reading this book would probably be helpful, but if it's an American education you probably won't know anything about what they are discussing unless your own curiosity and initiative has led you to study these issues.

Police Mutiny

The police work for the state and (in theory) for the people. They claim they Serve and Protect. The organized police lobbies (pretending to be a unions) make demands and acts as if they can defy the state that pays them and dismiss the welfare of the public when it suits them. We know many of the departments and unions have been infiltrated by white supremacist and fascist groups which have ideologies that support anti-science and police state views. The state vaccination mandates are based on science and promote the general health and well being of the American people. Those police who refuse to follow the lawful orders of the state in this regard ( i.e., who engage in mutiny) should be summarily dismissed. If a shortage of police protection results the state should call for, and screen, a popular people's militia to replace them re street patrols. This would involve paying the citizens of the local communities in which they live for policing themselves and democratically selecting the militia officers to carry out the policing function. This is what would be done by any progressive democratically elected progressive local or state government faced with a police mutiny. This is what the people should demand and demand of their elected representatives and what the CCDS, CPUSA, DSA, PSL, WWP and all other groups claiming to be socialist should demand.

Pentagon's Tragic Mistake!

Tragic mistake indeed. This is par for the course with US drone strikes. The Pentagon spent a week trying to justify this "mistake." The only reason we know about it is these idiots did it in Kabul in front of the press. Thousands of civilians have been killed in the mountains and villages of Afghanistan out of sight of the NYT. We alienated the population outside the occupied cities slaughtering peasants just as we did in Vietnam. These Nazi tactics never work in the long run but they are the only ones the US knows how to use since people don't like hostile armies in their countries. Biden voted for this war when he was in the Senate and he has learned nothing in the meantime as his current foreign policy is an aggressive one towards, Cuba, Russia, Iran, China, etc., and is supportive of dictators around the world who kowtow to American interests. Trumpism with a "human" face.
